Google Analytics is one of the most used services, worldwide, for monitoring websites, in terms of statistics, visits, etc. But now the Austrian data protection authority has found that the way this Google service works violates Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR as it’s also widely known.

According to this authority, the GDPR is violated by the fact that Google sends sensitive information about its European users to the United States of America. In this sense, it cannot be guaranteed that the data of European users will be protected from US intelligence agencies and, therefore, the privacy of users is not guaranteed.

Therefore, the Austrian authorities want to ban this Google service in the country. But the search giant could face an even bigger hurdle, as several European regulators have confirmed that they are investigating Analytics.

European Parliament sanctioned for using Google Analytics

More: the European Data Protection Supervisor will be able to confirm the conclusions drawn by the Austrian entity and act accordingly for the entire European community.

It should be remembered that this European authority has even sanctioned the European Parliament precisely for using Google’s Analytics service.

For its part, Google defends itself by stating that companies that use Analytics control what data is collected and how it is used. It also adds that Google provides a series of protections, controls and resources to comply with the strict European privacy standards.

This promises to be a fierce fight that will take place this year between one of the North American technological giants and the European authorities, after the also North American Meta was attacked with the social networks Facebook and Instagram.
