The company Canalys has just published its analysis of the European smartphone market and, as expected, Samsung ranks first with more units sold, more specifically the South Korean brand holds 35% of the mobile device market.

In second place is Apple, which is also not surprising. According to the data released, the Cupertino company has a market share of 21%, having sold 8.9 million units on the European continent.

Closing out the top three is Xiaomi. The Chinese brand closely follows Apple with 8.2 million units sold and a 20% market share. But there are also more news for Xiaomi. The first quarter of 2022 was not one of the best for the brand, which lost 3% of its market share compared to the previous period.

Realme records 177% growth in the European market in the first quarter of 2022

According to the latest analysis by the company Canalys, Realme was the fourth most popular brand in the European market in the first quarter of 2022. With 2.1 million units sold and a market share of 5%, surprisingly, Realme grew by 177 % with respect to the previous period.

This result is especially relevant, considering that the offer of smartphones for the European market was reduced by around 10%, compared to the same period last year. In cash, last year there was an offer of 46.4 million smartphones while this year the figure dropped to 46.4 million units.

“The reason for this drop in Europe is because Russia and Ukraine were hit hard. Sales in these countries fell by 31% and 51%, respectively, compared to the first quarter of 2021”, explained Runar, research analyst at Canalys. Bjorhovde.

In the other European countries, sales “fell just 3.5% year-on-year, showing that demand remains intact. But the ongoing war has pushed inflation to a record level and consumer confidence is falling. The real test for the smartphone market will come in the next two quarters, when the economic impact of the war will really be felt.”
