Katrina Kaif’s upcoming film Merry Christmas is slated to hit theaters on January 12 next year. The trailer of the film has been released and the audience’s enthusiasm for the film has increased. South superstar Vijay Sethupathi will be seen as the lead actor in the film along with Katrina Kaif. But did you know that another actor had expressed interest in the role of Vijay Sethupathi? However, the director refused to give him this role.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Merry Christmas director Sriram Raghavan revealed that Saif Ali Khan wanted to play the role of Vijay Sethupathi. The director said: “I wanted a very unique pairing because that is the need of the story.” Neither of them should have any problems. So I met another actor who also liked the role, but then I had to apologize to him.
The actress was also present with Shriram during the interview. In such a situation, the actress asked the director the name of the actor who wanted to play Vijay’s character in the film. To which Shriram replied, “Yes, I can tell you.” He was Saif Ali Khan! So I met him and he was actually a little upset when I said no. At that point, I had not cast Vijay. I declined because I wanted something new and didn’t know what I was looking for.
We tell you that Shriram has already worked with Saif Ali in the films Ek Hasina Thi (2004) and Agent Vinod (2012). On how Sriram cast Vijay in ‘Merry Christmas’, he said that he traveled to Melbourne for a film festival where, after watching ’96’, he met Vijay and asked if he could speak Hindi . To this, Vijay replied yes and the director chose him for Merry Christmas.
