They transfer the son of “Chapo” Guzmán to Mexico City after his capture

The Mexican authorities transferred this Thursday to Mexico City Ovidio Guzmán, one of the sons of Joaquín "el chapo" Guzmán most wanted by the US, whose arrest occurred at dawn and led to various blockades, attacks with bullets and burning of cars in Culiacán, north of the country.

After his capture in the state of Sinaloa, the Armed Forces transferred Chapo’s son to the Mexican capital and made him available to the agent of the federal Public Ministry to determine his legal situation, explained Luis Cresencio Sandoval, Secretary of National Defense, in a Press conference.

"The prisoner (Ovid "No.") was transferred to the facilities of the Specialized Prosecutor for Organized Crime (FEMDO) to be made available to the agent of the federal public prosecutor and determine his legal situation"declared without detailing the charges or admitting questions.

THE OPERATION AND THE ACCUSATIONS

Sandoval specified that the arrest occurred early Thursday morning in an operation involving members of the National Army, the National Guard and other security institutions and was the result of six months of work.

"Ovidio N is the one who leads the Los Menores fraction, related to the Pacific Cartel, generator of violence in four states and in the northwestern region of the country, son of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, who is imprisoned in the United States"the official stated.

He also assured that Chapo’s son traveled by plane from the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) to Mexico City.

VIOLENT REACTION

The head of the Army acknowledged that after the arrest, violent acts were generated, such as 19 blockades and armed attacks, including the Culiacán Airport and the number 10 air base.

In addition, all access to Culiacán was closed, four of them from the city of Los Mochis and two more at the exit to Costa Rica, Sinaloa.

It also unleashed a series of violent acts in cities such as Culiacán, Mazatlán and Los Mochis, in addition to the cancellation of school and government activities in the entity, and the population was asked to remain in their homes to protect their integrity.

While in Mexico City a strong security operation was carried out.

For her part, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), stressed that the operation was executed with strategy and asked the population not to share false and unverified information.

“These are moments to be united, society and Government. We must not forget that together we build peace. We do not come to win a war, we come to build peace, ”she pointed out.

Ovidio Guzmán López, “El Ratón”, together with his brother Joaquín Guzmán López, is charged in the United States on criminal association charges related to illicit drugs.

According to US authorities, the brothers conspired to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana in the United States from Mexico and other parts of the world from 2008 to 2018.
