The Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana) and the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Puerto Plata decided to promote actions to identify opportunities for exporters and to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) for the province.
The executive director of ProDominicana, Biviana Riveiro, and the president of the Puerto Plata Chamber of Commerce and Production, Mileyka Brugal, signed an agreement in which they committed to making viable actions and projects focused on promoting business productivity and exports.
Likewise, they agreed to optimize institutionality and legal certainty as attractions for attracting investment and maximizing benefits.
Riveiro highlighted the importance of increasing efforts in the productivity of Puerto Plata to exceed the US$83.1 million generated by Puerto Plata exports in the last five years.
He indicated that the aspiration is to consolidate this province as an export focus, definitively overcoming the fluctuations registered between 2017 and 2020”.
The president of the Chamber, Mileyka Brugal, pointed out that “since we started the project to revitalize the productive sectors of our province, with the formation of the municipal delegations of the Chamber of Commerce, we are committed to seeking all the alternatives that allow us to achieve a better projection and use of the products and economic activities of each one of our localities; Therefore, with the signing of this agreement and the installation of an office, we reaffirm our intention”.
Among the results of the agreement is the installation of an office and technical staff of ProDominicana to meet the needs of companies and MSMEs.
Free trade zone
According to statistics from the National Council of Export Free Zones (CNZFE) by 2021, the province of Puerto Plata has generated 987 direct jobs in Free Zones and has an accumulated investment of US$23.36 million, increasing by 30 % during 2021.
