They make history! Tigres del Licey launches no hitter against Toros del Este

History came to the Dominican ball again and this time with the help of a no-hit game thrown by the pitching of the leading Tigres del Licey.

Five Tigres pitchers combined this Tuesday to throw the fourth no-hitter in franchise history and number 10 in the history of the 69 tournaments that have been held in the annals of Dominican baseball.

Lisalberto Bonilla (1.0), Elniery García (5.0), Arodys Vízcaino (1.0), Jean Carlos Mejía (1.0) and Jairo Asencio (1.0) became the protagonists who left the Toros del Este hitless in the whiteout of the felines 2-0 against Romanenses at the Francisco Micheli stadium.

In all, the blue mounders combined to strike out 14 and give up just one walk.

The shutout is the fourth that the Blues have pitched in their first 13 games in the tournament. With their success they reached their tenth win with just 3 losses, being the first team to achieve double digits in wins in the young championship.

The Tigres’ no-hit game is the first to be launched in the League since the Toros threw one at Licey on November 16, 2020, in a clash that had Domingo Germán, Jenry Mejía, Pedro Payano, as main sponsors. Anthony Gose and Tim Peterson.

This is the fourth match without a hit for the blue pitching, the first one had Guayubín Olivo as the protagonist on Saturday, May 29, 1954 at the Normal stadium against the Chosen

Then Dennis Springer pitched a complete on Friday, November 22, 1991 against the Stars, a team he beat 1-0.

While the trio made up of Ervin Santana (6.0) (Dámaso Marte (1.2) and Carlos Mármol (1-1) had combined for a third on January 14, 2008 against the Stars and the Blues won 3-0.

For the second straight no-hitter, five pitchers are combined for execution, the most in a matchup of this kind.

With this new feat, Licey’s pitching continues in a superb way and they continue to dominate the tournament.

The races

Only a couple of laps required the team to put the Bulls on the road, the first was a solo home run by Jair Camargo in the fifth inning and the next was a sacrifice fly by Trenton Brooks that allowed Dalvis Rosario to score from the anteroom.

Lisalverto Bonilla opened the game for the blue team, pitching one inning, where he walked and struck out twice. He was unable to continue the game due to a cramp in his throwing arm.

Elniery García was in charge of throwing the next five perfect innings with 5 strikeouts.

Arodys Vízcaíno pitched the perfect seventh inning, retiring the Roma batters 1-2-3. He got a punch.

Jean Carlos Mejía retired the three batters he faced in the eighth inning by way of strikeout.

The historic last entry

And in the ninth inning, Jairo Asencio also smoothly retired all three men he faced.

The 25th out was a ground ball by Marco Hernández to second base. David Bañuelos struck out for the 26th out and Estery Ruiz gave up the final out of the game with a grounder to third base.

The next commitment of the Tigres will be this Wednesday, November 2, when they visit the Cibao Giants at the Julián Javier Stadium, in a match scheduled for 7:00 at night.
