They invent a system to improve crops

Ready to revolutionize the national agricultural market and country life, a group of students of the Vocational Technical Training Institute (Infotep) presented its project “Garden Pro”in Spanish “Professional Garden”, at the entity’s innovation fair.

The Garden Pro is a prototype of “smart agriculture” that measures the climatic variables (such as temperature, humidity of the environment, soil humidity, etc.) during the crop cycle and uses it to make decisions that help the farmer’s work to be more efficient and fruitful.

“Our smart agriculture project is about a device that for various reasons manages to measure temperature, humidity of the environment, soil humidity, and other variablesand use an application to make decisions such as turning a pump on or off to water the plants”, Sadiel Rojas, one of the protagonists of the initiative, explained to LISTÍN DIARIO.

Functioning
The apparatus, totally autonomous and self-sustainingsince it has a solar panel that allows it to recharge itself, it has a system that, being embedded in the earth, emits the signals to a hardware where they are completed and it is possible to synchronize several units to create an information network and facilitate taking of decisions.

Likewise, it contains a 30,000 milliampere (mAh) battery, which supports it for approximately one year, in case there is no sun.

The application software used by the Garden is completely independent, but it has functions that are driven by the device such as “crop data”, which can tell you when you should turn on or off the water pump that feeds agricultural crops at a certain time.

The calendar” allows to know the cyclesin addition to seeing what period it is in at the moment and alerts when each period ends, as well as the “graphics” mode that gathers the information that the device has been collecting over time.

As explained Luis Díaz, Harry K. Israel, Sadiel Rojas and Alonso Ledesmathe ideologues and materializers, from anywhere in the world can activate the functionalities of the device.

“Let’s say, you want to be in Punta Cana, but you have a crop in Valverde, Mao, you can see and control your crop from there,” said Díaz, who also explained that everything arose from the vision because of “the need that was in it Agricultural area”.

“We are practically in the Paleolithic era of what cultivation is, it has evolved little, and since there is a lot of talk about industries 4.0, we wanted to give it a twist so that the farmer is no longer just a peasant… That anyone, a woman or a man, who has an office here in the capital, can take care of his cultivation”, he stated.

Ideal help to the farmer
According to how they demonstrated before the environment, the programming of land needs is different depending on the type of crop, added to this, through an agenda you can program when you want to do the cultivation and the Garden Pro automatically indicates when it is finished, and other needs among which the prototype is intended to include the missing nutrients in the soil.

“We are thinking that also could measure what are the nutrients that plants haveeven with a drone, so that the person can see or monitor their crop from anywhere in the world”, they defined.

Meanwhile, the element implies a help in automation of the tasks of the land worker, both fertilizer and water removal.

In addition, it also has meteorological data connected to satellites that give the macro variables at the regional level and inform about the probability of rain.

“That it gives us the chances of rain implies that we can make decisions… Things like, if it is going to rain, not use the water we have as a resource,” defined Luis Díaz.

Innovatep
Last Wednesday, Infotep inaugurated its fair “Innovatep”an initiative that includes dozens of projects aimed at innovations in the tourism area, renewable energy, gastronomy, cybersecurity and others.

In addition to exposing “talks and conferences with guidance and information on aspects of industry 4.0, innovation and the careers that the educational center will offer.”

Between the models to highlight is the “Rayotep”based on the modification of a 1999 Mitsubishi Lancer combustion vehicle to a 100% electric one.

also added the “Rehabil-tech” a glove that combines flexible robotic energy with air pressure “as a pneumatic, automatic motor force directed by an electronic box to control the motor functions of the hand” that helps speed up the process of motor rehabilitation of the hands, tested in patients who suffered a cardiovascular accident.
