The Estadio Único Madre de Ciudades in Santiago del Estero expanded its capacity from 30,000 to 42,000 spectators to receive the Argentine national team on Tuesday 28, who will play a friendly against Curaçao as part of the celebrations for winning the World Cup in Qatar.
Former Boca soccer player Julio Marchant, current director of the Santiago stadium, confirmed the news to the Télam agency: “We started with the removal of seats in the North, high and low sectors, South, also high and low, and in the East sector, high stalls”.
“The Single Stadium has a capacity, without removing the seats, of about 30,000 people. With the removal of these sectors, there will be a capacity of approximately 42,000 people,” said the 43-year-old former midfielder, who also played for Racing , Union, Banfield and Chacarita. The former player explained that he “finished removing the seats in their entirety from these sectors” and clarified that after the friendly match in Argentina “they will be placed again as they were.”
It will not be the first time that Lionel Messi and the world champions will play at the Estadio Único, since, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, on June 3, 2021, they were present in the province of Santiago to face Chile within the framework of the South American Qualifiers.
“The first time our National Team and Leo Messi visited us it was a pandemic. That time we lacked color, the encouragement of the public in the stadium to be able to receive them as they deserve,” Marchant recalled. “This will be a nice opportunity, even more so after the World Cup that our National Team won in Qatar,” added the former midfielder.
Regarding the details of the match at the Estadio Único, the ex-soccer player said that there will surely be some surprise from the organization, with musical shows and light effects. “We are very happy to have our National Team in the province, it will be a very nice occasion,” explained Marchant. “The presence of Argentina will be a beautiful visit not only in sports, but for other sectors such as gastronomy and tourism that will benefit from the event, that makes us happy as well,” said the former soccer player.
