They expect runoff in the next few hours from the Hatillo and Rincón dams

The person in charge of the Irrigation Systems Operation Division in Indhri, Luis Cuevas, ireported this Tuesday that they expect in the next 48 to 72 hours, the runoff from the Hatillo and Rincón damsafter the rains finish after the passage of Hurricane Fiona through the country.

Cuevas told Listín Diario that both reservoirs, located in the Sánchez Ramírez and Monseñor Nouel provinces, respectively, exceeded their capacity, for which a discharge process began and whose flows will begin to drop within the established time.

Despite this scenario, the minister affirmed that these dams are under the control of the authorities.

“It is a natural process, the dams are filled and then the dam’s own flows begin to drop,” he said.

Cuevas reiterated that this process is gradual, and that as the days go by, the flow of these dams will decrease.

Regarding the other reservoirs, he commented that they do not represent a danger to the population, since the rains generated by Fiona increased their capacity by centimeters, as is the case of Tavera (Santiago) and Jigüey (San José de Ocoa).

The director of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (Indrhi), Olmedo Caba, asked the population on Tuesday not to be careless, since the danger of more flooding persists in communities adjacent to the lower Yuna.

The official said that a lot of water will continue to arrive, as a result of the rains caused by Hurricane Fiona, in the areaThe Hairstyles, The Contreras, Limón del Yuna, Barraquitoand others from the Duarte province.
