They agree to a salary increase in the free zone sector, workers will earn RD$16,700 per month as of May 1

The National Wage Committee approved today a 20% increase in the minimum wage for workers in the free zone sector, divided into two items, the first of 15% as of May 1.

The second item of 5% wage increase in the minimum wage of the free zone sector will take effect on April 1, 2024, according to CNS resolution number 03-2021.

The 15% salary increase for the first item raises the amount to RD$16,000 per month, while with the additional 5% the amount will rise to RD$16,700.

The resolution is the result of a tripartite agreement on March 16, 2023, but it was postponed until a new bipartite private meeting outside the CNS was reached, which was communicated today by the employer sector represented in the Dominican Employers’ Confederation (Copardom). ; and union representatives.

As reported, an increase in the minimum wage in the tourism sector is expected to be achieved this Friday the 14th.


"Recognizing that the powers of the National Wage Committee are limited to setting the minimum wage, the parties urge those companies whose financial and competitive condition enables them, and on a voluntary basis, to also carry out salary reviews in favor of employees who earn more than of the minimum wage"says the CNS resolution.
