These are the news coming to Microsoft Teams in March

We learned this week that Microsoft is adding information like birthdays, career changes, and pending meeting invites to Teams profile cards.

However, this isn’t the only feature planned for the collaboration software, as the company has recently updated its Microsoft 365 Roadmap with many new features coming soon too.

For starters, Teams incorporates the «ultrasonic sound detection» on Windows and Mac. Basically, when multiple people join a Teams meeting in the same physical room with their respective microphones and speakers turned on, echoes and obnoxious sounds are produced due to the audio overlapping.

Microsoft fixes this problem by automatically detecting if more than one laptop is nearby in the same meeting, and if at least one has its microphone turned on, the next participants will be notified and their microphones and speakers will be automatically muted when they join.

Additionally, Teams on Windows and Mac will also support a “Explicit Write Consent” Policy, which is exactly what its name suggests. If you do not consent, audio, video and content shared on your screen will not be recorded.

On the other hand, Teams admins will experience a cleaner UI in the Teams Admin Center on the web. Left navigation elements that are not used as often will be hidden by default, but admins will have the opportunity to pin them if they wish.

Other improvements include being able to join meetings from calendar view in Apple CarPlay on iPhone, and there will be more customization options for live captions, including the ability to scroll to previous captions, up to one minute earlier.

All of the features mentioned above are planned for general availability in March 2023, but it’s important to understand that the timelines mentioned in the Microsoft 365 roadmap are tentative and may vary.
