pCloud, a company specializing in cloud storage, published a study on the features that consume the most battery in smartphones. Unsurprisingly, these are the apps that further ruin the autonomy of our smartphonesbe it an Android phone or an iPhone. The study also notes that 93% of smartphone users open a range of apps daily.
Also according to the information collected by pCloud, the most demanding applications are those that use several features of a smartphone, for example camera or geolocation. “We were able to calculate which of the 100 most popular apps are the most demanding”, explains pCloud in its press release.

The list of 20 Android apps that consume the most battery
At the top of the list, pCloud pins Fitbit add-on app. The app for users of the Fitbit band takes advantage of the four most demanding features of a smartphone: camera, location, microphone and wifi. Therefore, it is accompanied by a sharp drop in battery life.

As pCloud points out, most battery draining Android smartphone apps are social networks. We find in particular Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat or Linkedin. There are also several instant messaging apps, including WhatsApp, Telegram or Skype.
“On average, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Youtube, WhatsApp and Linkedin allow 11 more resources to run in the background, such as photos, Wi-Fi, locations and microphone. All of this requires more power to operate and ultimately consumes more of your phone and battery ”, pCloud details.
