There has been a dramatic increase in human rights abuses in Occupied Kashmir, UN representative

ISLAMABAD: The United Nations Special Representative on Kashmir, Fernand de Varens, has said that there has been a dramatic increase in human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir.

According to the details, before the G20 meeting, the important statement of the UN special representative on minority issues, Fernand de Vernes, has come out. There has been a dramatic increase in abuses.

The United Nations Special Representative said that a scheduled meeting of G20 is going to be held in Srinagar, India is trying to normalize the situation of increasing human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir, which it described as military occupation. went.

It should be noted that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights also warned the Human Rights Council a few weeks ago, Volker Turk, describing the situation of human rights in Occupied Kashmir as alarming and said, “The Special Rapporteur issued a statement which Rights violations were described, including torture, extrajudicial killings, denial of political participation rights of Kashmiri Muslims, minorities, suspension of democratic rights, with direct rule from Delhi on 6 August 2019. Municipal elections are also included in them.

Volker Turk said, “I and fellow independent experts wrote a letter to India in 2021 on the situation in occupied Kashmir. Now the situation has worsened. In the letter, we mentioned the loss of political autonomy, new domicile rules. had expressed concerns over the implementation of the Act, we expressed concern that India might change other legislations.”

According to Volker Turk, political deprivation may increase as a result of the demographic structure of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir, India may reduce the political representation of Kashmiris and other minorities in the former state, thereby undermining their linguistic, cultural, and religious rights. Perhaps, this is in an environment of repressive, sometimes brutal suppression of fundamental rights on the ground.

Volker Turk said, “The independent expert noted that there have been reports of Hindus being relocated here from outside the region. This move is causing dramatic demographic changes in Occupied Kashmir. India is trying to make the local Kashmiris subjugate them on their own land.

Volker Turk said that illegal and arbitrary arrests, political persecution, pressure on independent media and human rights activists are increasing, the UN Declaration of Human Rights is still maintained by organizations such as the G20. The situation in Jammu and Kashmir should, and should, be condemned.

The UN High Commissioner explained about the impartial procedure that “Special Rapporteurs are part of the Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council, the Council has independent fact-finding and monitoring procedures, the Special Procedures experts Working on a voluntary basis, they are not UN staff and do not receive remuneration for their work, they serve in an individual capacity, independent of any government or organization.”
