An 18 year old young man was sentenced this Friday for attempting to rob a taxi driver in the neighborhood Marconi. The incident occurred last Wednesday in Enrique Castro and Burgueño, an area where police intervened.

The young man was convicted as the criminally responsible perpetrator of a crime of aggravated assault in competition without repeat, a crime of particularly aggravated attempted robbery and a crime of carrying a weapon in public places, all in the true repeat regime.

He must serve a prison sentence of two years and two months with deduction of the time served and is responsible for the obligations established in Article 105 letter E of the Penal Code.

The taxi driver is 52 years old and the bullet hit the arm he was using to cover himself. The man told police that two strangers approached him, asked him for “a few coins” and that when he rolled down the car window, one of them produced a gun and shot him. Interior Ministry sources then said the taxi driver refused to give them money and a fight ensued.

During a raid, police confiscated the wheelchair in which one of the criminals was traveling.
