The Xorret de Catí returns to La Vuelta

El Xorret de Catí, a mountain located in the municipality of Castalla, will once again host a high end of the 2023 Vuelta a España, whose stage start will be held on September 2will take place from Denia, as announced this Friday by the Provincial Council of Alicante.

It will be the second time that Denia hosts a stage start of the Tour of Spain and the sixth in which it ends at the top of the Xorret de Catí, one of the mythical of the Alicante mountain where they have managed to beat runners like José María ‘Chava’ Jiménez, Eladio Jiménez, on two occasions, or the former world champion Julian Alaphilippe.

The president of the Diputación, Carlos Mazón, valued that a tourist municipality “of the importance that Denia has in the whole of our province” can host a start of the Vuelta and was pleased that the end of the stage is held in one of the “most emblematic and traditional” peaks such as the top of Xorret de Catí.

“It is a scenario that is highly appreciated by all cycling fans due to the overexertion that runners must face to be able to reach the top”, explained Mazón, who recalled that there are ramps in the 20% ascent.

“Once again, we have focused all our efforts to attract this sporting event of international significance to the province, aware of its potential to spread our territory, promote our municipalities, reactivate our tourism and generate wealth and employment”, explained Mazón.

In this way, the president recalled that the fact that this stage is held on a weekend “will favor that it be followed by a greater number of spectatorsboth in situ, from our roads, and in the television broadcast”.

The 78th edition of the Cycling Tour of Spain will start on Saturday, August 26 from Barcelona and will end on Sunday, September 17 with the traditional circuit through Paseo del Prado and Cibeles, in Madrid. The rest of the stages will be officially presented on January 10 in Barcelona.
