The Women’s Cup begins a month late and Shiffrin wins

The first women’s event of the season, after the suspension of the five previously scheduled due to weather conditions (excess or lack of snow), continued what happened in the last World Cup and he raised to the lead the American Mikaela Shiffrin, winner of the slalom disputed in Levi, in Finnish Lapland.

Shiffrin, winner of her fourth Crystal Globe last season, and the Slovakian Petra Vlhova, who was second, were called to fight for the victory, but between them was the Swedish Anna Swen Larsson, who finished 16 hundredths behind Shiffrin and four above Vhova. The German Lena Dürr opened the track in the initial heat and set a time of 54.48 that none of the 73 skiers who came down below could cut. The closest were Larsson, at 0.45, and Shiffrin, at 0.55, only two hundredths less than Vlhova.

Dürr, third overall in slalom last season, was unable to match that position in the final heat, where she sank in the third sector to finish 14th. On the contrary, Shiffrin was stellar, making up for lost time and, with her 56.22, signed an overall time of 1:51.25 that took her to the first position. The German finished fourth in the calculation of the two sleeves.

The women’s Cup was going to premiere in October with a giant on the Austrian glacier of Sölden, which it was canceled due to heavy rainfall that reduced visibility. Subsequently, two descents in Zermatt-Cervinia (Switzerland-Italy) were canceled due to lack of snow, the same reason why two parallel giants could not be played in Lech (Austria).
