Imagine if Geralt joined the Wild Hunt. This abandoned idea for The Witcher 3 is fascinating.
Geralt would have been part of the Wild Hunt. He’d sail on the Naglfar with them. Geralt would even pretend to be one of them for some missions.
This idea came from an interview with CD Projekt. They talked about the game’s development. The Witcher 3 just turned 10.
CD Projekt said they wanted to make a big change. This change involved the Wild Hunt. Geralt would join them.
Early Ideas
The game’s writing team lead, Marcin Blacha, said the Wild Hunt was a big part of this change.
Geralt would be a real member of the group. He’d sail with them and do missions as one of them.
The team also thought about a different ending. This ending was inspired by Mass Effect 2’s Suicide Mission.
Geralt would gather a team and do a dangerous mission with his friends. They’d sail through icy waters and fight the Wild Hunt in Skellige drakkar.
This idea was different from Mass Effect 2. The team didn’t want to copy it exactly.
They wanted to make it their own. So, they designed a new mission.
Development Process
The team worked hard on this idea. But in the end, they chose a different path.
They focused on Geralt’s relationships with Ciri, Yennefer, and Triss. This was a great choice.
The game’s DLC, Blood and Wine, also had some interesting development ideas.
The team thought about removing vampires from the story. But they didn’t.
They kept the vampires and made them a big part of the DLC.
The Witcher 3 is out now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
