The White House calls on Congress to approve police reform in the US.

The White House spokeswoman, Karine Jean-Pierre, asked the US Congress on Thursday to work to approve laws that allow police reform in the country, which prevents possible cases of police violence.

"The president will continue doing everything in his power to fight for police reform in Congress"Jean-Pierre pointed out in his daily press conference.

The spokeswoman made these statements hours before President Joe Biden meets at the White House with legislators from the black community to discuss how to reform the Police.

All this after the controversy unleashed by the death in early January of a young black manTire Nichols, after he was beaten up by a group of police officers after allegedly committing a traffic violation in Memphis (Tennessee, USA).

The funeral for Nichols was held this Wednesday and was attended by the US Vice President, Kamala Harris, who joined the petitions for Congress to approve the "George Floyd Police Justice Act"who advocates police reform.

"As the President has repeatedly said, no executive action can supersede federal legislation. Real and lasting change at the state and local level will require Congress to act"insisted today Jean-Pierre.

For this reason, the spokeswoman called on the Republicans to stop "get in the way" to ensure that "the justice system lives up to its name".
