The U.S. Senate approved $60 billion in funding for Ukraine on Tuesday, but the bill is at risk of failing to pass the Republican-majority House of Representatives, according to its spokesman Mike Johnson.

The $95 billion package includes funding for the Israeli military and its strategic ally Taiwan, but the bulk – $60 billion – would help Ukraine replenish its depleted stockpiles of ammunition, weapons and other vital supplies.

The bill, which was voted on by the Senate early Tuesday and passed with bipartisan support, It does not include changes in U.S. immigration policy. An earlier Senate text that addressed both the border and foreign aid was blocked by members of Johnson’s own party after he also vowed to repeal it in the House over concerns that it did not sufficiently account for illegal border crossings.

“House Republicans have made clear from the beginning of the discussion that any so-called supplemental national security legislation must recognize that national security begins at our own border,” Johnson said in a statement.

Johnson had previously stated that the Senate’s first bill, which contained some of the strictest immigration restrictions in decades, but which he said If he didn’t go far enough, he would be “dead on arrival” in his chamber.

His rhetoric echoed that of former President Donald Trump. who has strongly called for the bill to be defeated because he is running for office again and is trying to exploit Joe Biden’s supposed weakness on immigration. The bill approved in the Senate on Tuesday excluded immigration reforms and was approved with 70 yes votes and 29 no votes. with the support of several Republicans.
