The US asks China for “containment” for its military maneuvers around Taiwan

Washington (BLAZETRENDS).- The United States asked China for “restraint” on Saturday due to the military maneuvers carried out around Taiwan and warned it that it has the necessary “capabilities” to guarantee the security of the island.

A State Department spokesman told BLAZETRENDS that they are “monitoring” the maneuvers carried out this Saturday by Beijing in response to the meeting last Wednesday between the Taiwanese president, Tsai Ing-wen, and the president of the House of Representatives of the United States. United, Kevin McCarthy.

“Channels of communication with the PRC remain open and we have consistently asked them for restraint and for there to be no change in the ‘status quo,'” the spokesman said.

The Joe Biden government is confident that it has “sufficient resources and capabilities to guarantee peace and stability in the region,” the source added.

The spokesman for US diplomacy insisted that the Taiwanese president’s visit to the United States was a “stopover” and that there is no reason for Beijing to “overreact.”

The Chinese Army defined the maneuvers as “a serious warning” against “the provocation of the separatist forces” and a “necessary action to protect the national sovereignty and territorial integrity” of China.

The exercises, announced by the Chinese Army this Saturday, included the deployment of “rockets, conventional missiles, ships and planes,” the state CCTV network reported.

Tsai met Republican McCarthy last Wednesday in Los Angeles, where he made a stop on his way back to Taiwan after a tour of Central America.

The situation is reminiscent of what happened in August 2022, when the visit to Taiwan of the then Speaker of the House of Representatives, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, enraged Beijing, which responded with military maneuvers around the island to a trip that it described as “farce” and “deplorable treason”.

The island, which Beijing considers a rebel province, is one of the biggest sources of conflict between China and the United States, mainly because Washington is Taiwan’s main arms supplier and would be its biggest military ally in the event of a war.

The United States has subscribed to the “one China” policy since 1979, but maintains close unofficial relations with Taiwan despite not recognizing its independence.
