The United States holds a meeting to address security in Haiti

The Government of the United States reported that this Friday it will convene a virtual meeting of high-level international partners to address the security, political and economic challenges in Haiti and present opportunities to support the Haitian people.

“The Undersecretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Brian Nichols, will chair the meeting,” they said in a statement.

Participants will include a wide range of governments and international organizations committed to the development of Haiti.

The meeting will seek commitments to prevent further deterioration of security and economic conditions, as well as efforts to support Haitian-led solutions to Haiti’s political stalemate.

“The United States seeks to unite the international community to work in partnership with the Haitian people in a unified approach to help Haiti restore its democratic institutions,” they state.

Given this initiative, the Dominican president, Luis Abinader congratulated his counterpart Joe Biden for convening the meeting that represents the support of the international community.

“We congratulate the initiative of President Joe Biden (@Potus) in having convened, together with the Government of Haiti, the“ Haiti International Partners Meeting ”. A valuable meeting that represents a great first step in gaining the support of the international community for the neighboring country, ”Abinader wrote on Twitter.
