The United Kingdom will extend a credit line to the country to 4,000 million pounds sterling

President Luis Abinader received the British ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Mockbul Ali, at the National Palace, where it was announced that due to confidence in the Dominican economy, the Government of the United Kingdom will extend the line of credit to the country to 4,000 million pounds sterling.

The diplomat expressed that by virtue of the confidence that the United Kingdom has in the Dominican Republic, its government and in the performance of its economy in recent years, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will take place.

He said that this Memorandum of Understanding will give the Dominican Republic access to resources for the execution of strategic infrastructure projects, including water, public health and transportation, providing it with one of the most extensive country coverage in the Latin American region and the Caribbean with up to £4 billion in funding.

The diplomat specified that this is part of a broader cooperation that reflects the strengthening of the bilateral relationship over more than 170 years of friendship, and that today reaches new heights. It will be signed at the National Palace in the coming days.

Mockbul Ali expressed that “the British government is extremely proud of the unprecedented strength of this bilateral relationship and as a result of this, we will be signing this Memorandum of Understanding that, for the first time, will make available to the Dominican Republic up to 4,000 million of pounds sterling, to carry out major social and economic development projects.

He added that “this demonstrates the confidence that the United Kingdom has in the Dominican government and economy as a regional leader of shared values.”
