The UASD wins the University Archery tournament

The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) took the top honors in the first University Archery tournament held this Sunday on the field of that discipline in Parque del Este.

The contest, organized by the Ministry of Sports, through the National Commission for University Sports, featured goalkeepers from nine higher education centers.

The UASD shooters kept the first place cup by winning two gold medals, one silver and a pair of bronze.

The representation of the Apec University (Unapec) ranked second, product of a gold medal, four silver and one bronze.

The selection of the National University Pedro Henríquez Ureña (Unphu) was left with the third step, after winning a gold, a silver and a bronze.

Prior to the last rounds of competition, a brief opening ceremony was held, presided over by Rafael Pérez Jiménez, national director of University and School Sports, who urged the athletes to compete with gallantry.

Meanwhile, Roque García, director of University Sports at the Ministry of Sports, and president of the National Commission for University Sports, indicated that he hopes that, starting from this edition, archery will be part of the competition program every year.

“This is one of the emerging sports that has a great future, precision and we believe that we can place athletes in international university competitions”, added Roque García.
