Rehman Khan was born on June 23, 1921 to a Pathan family in Lahore, Pakistan. The actor’s ancestors are said to have belonged to Afghanistan. Gradually, Rehman Khan’s family moved to Jabalpur and he joined Robinson College to further his studies. In those days, Rehman was so educated that after finishing his studies, he joined the Indian Air Force and became a pilot, but probably neither the actor was interested in being a pilot nor was his destiny written in. That is why in 1944 he left the pilot’s job.

After leaving the job, Rahman Khan started working as a third assistant director at Prabhat Studios. In those days, he used to be Vikram Bede’s assistant, that’s when he got a chance to play a small role in DD Kashyap’s movie ‘Chand’. DD Kashyap said that there is a small role in the film, you need a Pathan to say a line after the song, tie a Pashtun turban on your head like a Pathan, do this and become famous. At the behest of DD Kashyap, Rahman Khan played this role and was really impressed. The actor had to repeat about 50 takes to utter this line. After this, it was as if Rahman Khan’s fate was revealed. He worked in many wonderful movies like Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam, Waqt, Chaudvi Ka Chand, Hum Ek Hain….

At that time, Rahman had already made his mark in the acting field, but his sonorous voice made a special identity in people’s hearts. His dialogues were done with a powerful voice. Even in front of the biggest actors, Rahman used to act fearlessly and used to speak dialogues. It was because of his voice that Rahman was given such garbage-like characters.

It is said that Rehman Khan had become so addicted to alcohol that he developed throat cancer, after which his hoarse voice died. During this, the actor also suffered a heart attack 3 times. Then in 1984, after battling a long illness, he said goodbye to this world.
