The Tour Down Under and the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Race will not take place in January 2022

First big blow for the cycling calendar of the 2022 season. The organization of the Santos Tour Down Under, the event that usually opens the calendar on the UCI World Tour, has announced that, for the second consecutive year, the celebration is canceled of the career.

Through a statement the organization ensures that “The Santos Tour Down Under 2022 cannot go ahead due to international border closures and quarantine requirements for teams coming from outside Australia”, in connection with the strict measures taken by the Australian government to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Instead, and as was done in 2021, the organizers will celebrate the Santos Festival of Cycling, which will take place from January 21 to 29 that will bring together great figures of Australian cycling. Australia will have to wait at least until 2023 to see the great figures of the international peloton on its roads again.
