The World Athletics Championships that Tokyo will host in 2025 will be held in mid-September to avoid the intense summer heat in the Japanese capital, the Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) announced Thursday.

The sports event will take place between September 13 and 21 in the so-called National Stadium of the metropolis, as detailed in a statement by the JAAF following deliberations in Rome with the global athletics governing body, World Athletics.

The international body had originally planned to hold the tournament at the end of August, but the Japanese body proposed holding it in September “to reduce the burden on athletes.” and the management of the tournament in the face of extreme heat,” he said in the text.

The 2025 World Cups will be the second closest to the end of the year so far, after those held in Doha (Qatar) between September 27 and October 6, 2019.

All the tests will be held in the capital, including the marathon and the march, which were transferred to the city of Sapporo (in the north of the country) in the Tokyo Olympic Games in the summer of 2021precisely for fear of the impact of high temperatures, which affected athletes from other disciplines.
