‘The Taj Story,’ starring Paresh Rawal, faced a significant decline in its box office performance on its first Monday. The film, which opened on October 31, earned an estimated $55,200 (₹46 lakh) on its fourth day. This represents a substantial drop from its weekend figures.
The drama began its theatrical run with an opening day collection of approximately $120,000 (₹1 crore). It then saw an uptick on its second day, Saturday, bringing in around $228,000 (₹1.9 crore). Sunday’s holiday boosted earnings further to roughly $285,600 (₹2.38 crore).
Its cumulative box office total now stands at an estimated $688,800 (₹5.74 crore) after four days. While films often see a dip after the weekend, the steep fall for ‘The Taj Story’ indicates a struggle to maintain momentum.
Prior to its release, ‘The Taj Story’ generated considerable controversy. A petition was filed seeking to halt the film’s release, though the court declined an expedited hearing.
The low-budget production focuses on a man’s legal battle regarding the construction of the Taj Mahal. It questions historical narratives and aims to uncover the mystery surrounding 22 sealed rooms within the monument.
Directed and written by Tushar Amrish Goyal, the film also features Zakir Hussain, Namit Das, Brajendra Kala, Amruta Khanvilkar, Shishir Sharma, Akhilendra Mishra, and Shrikant Verma.
