The student took extreme measures when he was not admitted to the university, 2 professors were killed

BAGHDAD: A student in Iraq opened fire in anger over his refusal to enter a university, killing two professors.

According to international media reports, a former student of Iraqi Kurdistan University shot dead two professors, police have arrested the accused.

An Iraqi university student opened fire on the dean of the Faculty of Law in front of the university campus. He was shot in the head and chest. He was taken to hospital where he died.

Later, an Iraqi student broke into the home of a professor in the Faculty of Engineering in a neighborhood of Erbil and opened fire.

According to sources, the student was angry over being expelled from one university and his transfer to another being rejected.

Erbil Governor Omid Khushnau said the student first opened fire on Kawan Ismail, dean of the Faculty of Law, at Salahuddin University and then broke into the house of Idris Ezzat, a mechanical professor at Salahuddin University’s Faculty of Engineering.

Police say the young man has been a habitual offender and has been involved in several incidents.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Najat Ahmed said that the wife of Professor Idris is also a professor at the university and she teaches at Soran University in North Erbil. Professor Idrees’ wife had lodged a report against the youth for threatening him and had approached the court.

Police believe the former student intended to kill Professor Idris’ wife, who was not at home at the time.

Erbil Governor Omaid Khushnau said that the accused was expelled from Soran University in North Erbil by the wife of Professor Idris, then the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Salahuddin University refused to admit him.

After being expelled from Soran University, the former student had threatened to kill Dr. Idrees’ wife and was arrested.
