The star who demanded to leave West Ham in January

West Ham attacker Said Benrahma has expressed his desire to leave the club in January and French club Lyon have made contacts to acquire the player, according to recent reports. Despite competition in the Hammers’ attacking front with options such as Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paquetá, Pablo Fornals and Maxwel Cornet, Benrahma has struggled to find a prominent role in David Moyes’ side.

The Algerian has not played in the Premier League since November, his role has shrunk and he is mainly used on the bench. With Lyon sitting 15th in Ligue 1 and willing to spend in the transfer window, they have reportedly made contact with Benrahma’s entourage, who are open to the possibility of a move.

Benrahma wants to move to another team

French media L’Equipe and talkSPORT confirm reports of Lyon’s interest in the 28-year-old striker, calling him an “important target”. The French club is said to have set up a war chest of 50 million euros for possible moves in the winter window.

While Lyon’s exact offer is not mentioned, it is reported that they are willing to spend money to secure Benrahma’s signature. The player, who joined West Ham in January 2021 for £25m plus £5m in add-ons, has a current estimated value of around £19m, according to Transfermarkt.

With the January transfer window just around the corner, Benrahma’s situation promises to be a hot topic as Lyon look to strengthen their squad and the player seeks a greater involvement on the pitch.
