The second Super 4 match of the 2023 Asian Cup between India and Pakistan will be played on September 10 at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Ahead of this game, the weather in Colombo has added to everyone’s worries. Even at the start of the group stage, the game between these two teams in Kandy was inconclusive. With this in mind, it was decided to keep Friday as a reserve day for this exciting game and final. However, this decision has not been made for the remaining Super 4 games, although all of these games will also be played in Colombo. Afterwards, there was an uproar on social media. At the same time, the coaches of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh also asked questions about it.

Sri Lanka coach Chris Silverwood and Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurasingha expressed their displeasure over the unilateral decision to provide a ‘reserve day’ for the India-Pakistan match. The Asian Cricket Council had announced that the India-Pakistan match could resume on September 11 should rain disrupt play on September 10. However, no “reserve day” was planned for other games in the tournament. On this, Hathurasingha said that he was not aware of the reason for the sudden change in the “playing conditions” at the Asia Cup. The Bangladesh coach said on Friday that there is a technical committee represented by all six teams participating in the tournament. He may have made this decision for another reason. The Sri Lanka coach expressed surprise at the decision and described it as unfair.

Hathurasingha noted in his statement that no unanimous decision was taken on the issue. He also requested that his team would also like to have a “reserve day” for the games. He said that this wasn’t ideal and that we would also like an extra day. I cannot comment further on this as they have already made a decision and if they had consulted us first we would have given our opinion.
Sri Lanka manager Silverwood said he was surprised to learn of the decision to reserve a reserve day for the India-Pakistan game. He said that we don’t organize the competition and therefore we can’t do much about it. Honestly I don’t think it’s fair as it allows other teams to get points. At the same time, it can have an impact on our campaign.
