The Sports Sector Conference approves an item of 35 million

The Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta, accompanied by the president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Franco, today chaired the meeting of the Sports Sector Conference. The objective has been the approval of the territorial distribution and the criteria of distribution of a new item of 35 million euros for the Autonomous Communities and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla for 2022, after the approval of the Council of Ministers last Tuesday.

The meeting, which took place at the CSD headquarters, has allowed Minister Iceta to specify to the regional councilors the objectives, distribution criteria and amounts of the new investments, framed in Component 26 “Sports Sector Development Plan” of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. As he explained, 26 million euros will go towards modernizing the sports infrastructures of the High Performance Centers and the regional Network of Centres, to adapt them to the criteria of sustainability and energy optimization. Added to the 49 million already distributed last year with the same objective, this reaches 75 million euros destined for the ecological transition of the sports sector.

Another 9 million euros will go towards the implementation of a Physical Activity and Exercise Prescription Plan, with the aim that the Autonomous Communities develop and execute plans to promote physical activity and sport for health (AFBS) through digital tools. In this way, the aim is to improve the accessibility and efficiency of sports and health systems, in addition to intensifying the training of the professionals involved. Given its link between sport, health and technology, this investment is part of the Digitization axis of Component 26.

Lastly, the Autonomous Communities have been urged to propose possible venues for the 2030 World Cup in which Spain and Portugal compete together. The Secretary General for Culture and Sport, Víctor Francos, and the Director of the CSD President’s Cabinet, Juan Fernández Carnicer, have been appointed as the liaison between the Government of Spain and the Spanish Football Federation. With these new items, a total of 84 million euros have already been territorialized between the Autonomous Communities and the Cities of Ceuta and Melilla. A figure that represents almost 30% of the 300 million euros directed to the Plan for the Promotion of the Sports Sector, and that is distributed in three main axes: the Digitization Plan (75 million), the Ecological Transition Plan (146 million) and the Social Plan for Sport (77 million).
