The Spanish National Team dreams of the XC World Marathon

The Italian Island of Elba, located in the Tuscan Archipelago, will host this Saturday, October 2, the celebration of the XC Marathon World Championship to which the Spanish National Team attends with a very competitive team made up of the Olympic medalist David valero, the European champion of the specialty Natalia Fischer, Sergio Mantecón and Marcos García.

The XC Marathon World Championship continues to gain more relevance campaign after campaign within the international mountain bike calendar and an example of the rise of the discipline is that in this 2021 edition we will have the participation of many of the great stars of the World Cup circuit by XCO as Nino Schurter, Lars Forster or David Valero.

The competition will take place around a 35 kilometer circuit, which will offer some spectacular pictures of the beaches and the natural environment of Elba Island, to which Participants in the men’s category will have to make a total of three turns to complete 115 kilometers and 4,500 meters of unevenness.

On the starting line, to defend the title, will be the Colombian Hector Leonardo Páez, which will have the opposition of the best bikers in Switzerland, as the aforementioned Schurter and Forster must be added the presence of Colombo, as well as Tiago Ferreira, Martin Stosek, Juri Ragnoli and David Valero, which last year they occupied in the World Marathon from second to fifth in the same order. Representing the Spanish National Team will also be Sergio Mantecón, who in 2020 finished ninth in this competition, and Marcos García, who after more than a decade as a road professional this year has been proclaimed champion of Spain in the Marathon after a great performance in Galicia. .

The women’s competition

Regarding the women’s competition, this will be composed of two laps of the 35-kilometer circuit on Elba Island to result in a race of 85 kilometers and 3,200 meters of elevation gain for which Ramona Forchini and Maja Wloszczowska, first and second respectively last year, they will start again as favorites. It will also be necessary to take into account with regard to the medals to Natalia Fischer, who comes from winning the European Championship this year after beating another outstanding biker like Steffi Häberlin and to Forchini herself and to dominate the Spanish Championship with tremendous authority.

It should also be noted the presence of some of the stars of the international XCO, such as Rebecca McConell, Alessandra Keller or the promising Mona Mitterwalner, as well as the participation of an outstanding road cyclist such as Ashleigh Moolman.
