The Spanish epee team, silver in the Fencing World Cup

The Spanish men’s epee team has made history after winning the silver medal at the Fencing World Cup held in the Swiss city of Bern in a date in which they brushed the gold medal.

The group formed by Yulen Pereira, Manuel Bargues, Eugeni Gavaldas and Ángel Fabregat and trained by Ángel Fernández they fought with enthusiasm and desire to write their names in the elite of world fencing.

In the first round Spain beat the Netherlands by a total of 45 to 33 and in the round of 16 the Spanish defeated Sweden by 45 to 41. More troubles happened in the quarterfinal crossing against France, where Spain prevailed by a hit (45-44).

In the semifinals, Spain secured the silver medal after defeating Hungary by 45-42 and, in this way, being cited in the final with Russia. It was a very even round, which was decided by the Russian side in the last hit by 45-44, so Spain had to settle for a silver medal that, for the Spanish delegation, tastes like gold.
