The Spaniards on the Tour: Ion Izagirre’s victory before the Alps

Second Spanish victory in this edition of the Tour de France after the one achieved by Pello Bilbao just two days ago. This time the leading role went to another Basque runner, Ion Izagirre. The Cofidis cyclist was the strongest in a break made up of Pinot, van Aert or van der Poel, among others, which took more than 75 kilometers to complete and attacked in the last mountainous difficulty of the day to leave alone. The negative part was the fall and later abandonment of David de la Cruz after going to the ground with Quentin Pacher. This is how it went for the Spanish representation in the tenth stage of the Tour:

Ion Izagirre (1st): Second victory of the Cofidis cyclist in his record in the Tour de France. Ion attacked on the last hilly difficulty of the day, reaching the finish line in Belleville-en-Beaujolais alone after riding solo for more than 20 kilometres. After 100 stages and five years without winning in the French round, the victories come in pairs in each breakaway finished off to perfection.

Jonathan Castroviejo (20th): The Ineos cyclist continues to be the exceptional domestique of Carlos Rodríguez. He protected the man from Granada on the mountain climbs and rode with him to maintain the interests of the team and so that there was no loss of time before the alpine triptych.

carlos rodriguez (23rd): He continues with his good moment in particular and continues to maintain all his options before facing the alpine stages where he will try to cut time from Jai Hindley to get into the top three of La Grande Boucle.

Michael Landa (46th): The Basque cyclist was fatigued at the finish line after a stage in which there was not even a second of rest. He was cut off at the beginning of the day but managed to get into the main group so as not to lose time.

bilbao hair (47th): The Bahrain cyclist continues to regain strength after his break on the way to Issoire where he managed to get into the top-5. From Friday to Sunday he has three good opportunities to show his strength and look for the podium in this Tour de France.

Gorka Izagirre (48th): He arrived in the group of favorites and is still looking for his moment and his legs in a Tour de France that is not being easy for him.

omar friar (50th): Like Jonathan Castroviejo, he pulled the peloton so that the break did not take too much difference so that Pinot did not cut much time. The Ineos cyclist entered with the favorites.

Marc Soler (71st): The Catalan cyclist let himself go during the day with the aim of helping Pogacar tomorrow at the Grand Colombier. He lost more than seven minutes with respect to the group of favorites but that is not his race. It will be a support for the Slovenian at the weekend.

antonio pedrero (73rd): The Movistar cyclist will be present at the breakaways this weekend with the aim of achieving a stage victory in the Alps for his team. He entered the same group as Marc Soler since he dropped out to save legs.

Alex Aranburu (81º): He was one of the last in today’s session. These last stages he has not managed to get into the breakaways and he has not taken advantage of favorable terrain for him. He will try it in the third week.

Juanpe Lopez (91st): Like Pedrero, the Lidl-Trek cyclist preferred to save energy and use it this weekend in the alpine triptych on terrain that better suits his legs.

david de la cruz (Abandonment): The Spanish cyclist from Astana crashed at the beginning of the stage after making the sharpener with Quentin Pacher. His cries of pain portended the worst and, finally, he had to give up.
