The right-wing coalition wins the elections with 42.2%

The right-wing coalition formed by Brothers of Italy (FdI), Liga and Forza Italia (FI) wins the general elections that were held yesterday by obtaining 42.2% of the votes in the Senate, compared to 26.14 obtained by the progressive alliance , according to the first projection broadcast by RAI public television. FdL, the formation of Giorgia Meloni, is the most voted party with 24.6%, according to projections based on 10 percent of the votes counted after the closing of the polling stations at 11:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m. GMT), for which everything indicates that she will be the first woman to govern Italy.

La Liga would remain at 8.5% and Forza Italia at 8%, in the worst results in its history. While the Democratic Party (PD), led by Enrico Letta, remained at 19.4%, below the 20% expected, and the 5-Star Movement (M5S) became the third party in the country with 16.5% , while the centrists of Acción and Italia Viva reach 7.3%.

These projections confirm the exit polls released at the close of schools, at 11:00 p.m. local time (9:00 p.m. GMT), according to which the right would obtain an absolute majority in both Houses. In the Chamber of Deputies it would add between 227 and 257, while the Senate would achieve between 111 and 131 and would be very close to reaching a two-thirds majority, with 267 and 134 seats, respectively.

“With these numbers we can govern”, said the deputy Fabio Rampelli at the Parco dei Principi hotel, where the leadership of the FdI and the coalition have met in Rome, as soon as the first polls are known, although it is not easy yet to know how they will be finally the results.
