The return that Sevilla is negotiating for the January market

Gonzalo Montiel’s loan spell with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League has proven to be an unsuccessful experience and has worrying parallels to his compatriot Lucas Ocampos’ loan spell with Ajax last season. The Argentine defender’s future now seems clearer than ever: Montiel will return to Seville after the winter market opens. However, unlike Ocampos’ arrival a year ago, Sevilla intend to transfer Montiel.

Sevilla paid €11 million for Montiel in the 2021 summer market, but recouping that investment seems like an impossible task at the moment. According to AS, those interested in the Argentine player come from his home country, with River Plate the most interested in repatriating him, although they are nowhere near the original sum. Montiel longs to return home to strengthen his position in the Albiceleste team with which he triumphed by scoring the decisive penalty at the World Cup.

It may also remain due to the need for reinforcements

However, given the precarious situation at right-back, there is also the possibility that Montiel will stay at Sevilla in January. Jesús Navas is injured and will be out of action for almost two months, while Juanlu is attracting continued interest in the Premier League.
