Pakistan Super League: Quetta Gladiators is one of the most successful franchises in the Pakistan Super League. The team made it to the finals in the first two seasons in 2016 and 2017. After that, the team also won the PSL title in 2019. But in the last four seasons, the Quetta Gladiators team captained by Safraz Ahmed failed to make it to the playoffs. Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has been appointed as the head coach of Quetta Gladiators for the upcoming Pakistan Super League season. The franchise announced this on Wednesday. He will replace wicketkeeper-batsman Moin Khan, who held the responsibility for eight years. He was given the role of director in the team.

Team owner Nadeem Umar, in a statement shared on the team’s social media, said that before his retirement, Shane was an integral part of Quetta Gladiators’ success in the inaugural season of the country’s premier league and wants to lead the team back to those glory days. There is no better option than what we are famous for. I wish him all the best in his new role.

Shane Watson has had an illustrious career as an all-rounder for Australia. He won the 2007 and 2015 World Cups with the Australian team. The 42-year-old retired from all forms of cricket in 2020. He joined IPL franchise Delhi Capitals in 2022 as an assistant coach alongside his former Australian teammate Ricky Ponting.

Shane Watson played for Chennai Super Kings from 2018 to 2020. During this period, he played many important innings for Chennai Super Kings and won matches. He scored 1252 runs in 43 matches for the CSK team, including two centuries. Shane Watson played an innings of 117 runs in the IPL 2018 final. Now this former CSK batsman has been appointed as the coach of Quetta Gladiators in PSL.
