The Queens of the Caribbean win gold in the final of the Central American Games

The Dominican Republic won this Saturday the women’s volleyball final of the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador and Santo Domingo by 25-19, 25-19 and 25-16 against Puerto Rico and the last gold medal of the regional jousts was hung.

At the Carlos ‘el Famoso’ Hernández Sports Palace, in the Salvadoran capital, the Dominicans dominated from beginning to end the last sports competition of the games, which will conclude tonight with the closing ceremony.

The champion team, led by the Brazilian Marcos Kwiek, was led on the field by the sisters Brayelin and Jineiry Martínez, who encouraged their team and led them to have a more aggressive attack that paid off and allowed them to start making differences in the match .

When the first set was winning 21-15 the Dominican team, the match was stopped for a few minutes because the power went out, prompting fans to turn on their cellphone flashlights.

After the restart, the quisqueyanas maintained their dominance against some Puerto Ricans who could not counteract the constant successful blocks of their rivals and they took the sleeve with a resounding 25-19.

In the second set the match kept the same trend. Not even the outstanding work of the spiker Brittany Abercrombie could stop the momentum of her opponents, who also found two amulets in the center Gaila González and in Yonkaira Peña to close this part of the match with another 25-19.

The domain in the last sleeve, which turned out to be a procedure, it was much more overwhelming and the champions celebrated a new title with the 25-16 which confirms that they are, and with a wide difference over their rivals, the best team in this discipline in the region.

To reach the final, the Dominicans beat Costa Rica 25-7, 25-11 and 25-17 in the group stage; 25-23, 25-19 and 25-13 to Mexico, and 25-19, 25-16, 22-25 and 25-21 to Puerto Rico, which was the only team that could win a set in the tournament against the team from Kwiek.

In the semifinals, the quisqueyanas got rid of Cuba without major difficulties with partials of 25-13, 25-19 and 25-15.

Thus, after beating Puerto Rico, the Dominicans won their sixth consecutive title in women’s volleyball at the Central American and Caribbean Games and historically they have already accumulated eight gold medals in this discipline.

Cuba clinched the bronze by defeating Colombia 25-22, 28-26 and 25-22 in the duel for third place.
