The Prosecutor’s Office has refused to investigate to the president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, in the Negreira case. The public ministry is positioned against investigating events prior to 2010 and, therefore, during his first presidency (2003-2010) because it considers them prescribed, according to tax sources consulted by Europe Press.
To support this decision, The Prosecutor’s Office has added that before 2010 there was no crime of sports corruption, nor unfair administration nor the responsibility of the legal personas he has advanced The reason and have confirmed the aforementioned sources. The decision will be made by the Investigating Court 1 of Barcelona, which is investigating the case following a complaint from the Prosecutor’s Office and a complaint by the referee Xavier Estrada Fernández for alleged corruption in payments from FC Barcelona to the former vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) José Maria Enriquez Negreira.
The case is being investigated for the alleged ongoing crimes of corruption between individuals in the sports field, unfair administration and false commercial documents. In addition to Negreira, FC Barcelona as a legal entity is being investigated in this case, its former presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeuthe former directors of the club Óscar Grau and Albert Soler and the company from Negreira DASNIL 95 SL.
