The president of Ecuador said that the protests are an attempted coup

The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, made a peculiar interpretation of the popular protests that are shaking his country. This Friday he denounced an attempted coup promoted by the leaders of the protests against his government. In a message broadcast on television and social networks, the president called on the international community and warned of an “attempt to destabilize democracy” in the country. Lasso accused the president of Conaie, Leónidas Iza, of seeking to overthrow the banker’s government. The mobilizations reached the 12th and their extension already exceeds those of 2019. This Friday, Iza announced that Pachakutik, the political arm in favor of the indigenous confederation, will evaluate requesting the removal of Lasso from parliament. The current president seized on that call to create the accusation of him. “This makes it clear to us that he (Iza) never wanted to resolve an agenda for the benefit of indigenous peoples and nationalities,” said the president. But the president of the National Assembly announced that the parliament will debate the impeachment of the president.
