The deputy economic secretary of the PP, Juan Bravo, has requested a meeting with the vice presidents Teresa Ribera and María Jesús Montero to present their economic proposals such as the extension of the reduced VAT to electricity, the extension of the VAT reduction to meat and fish or a reduction in income tax brackets.
At a press conference this Tuesday with the Deputy Minister of Sustainable Development, Paloma Martín, Bravo criticized that, given the five days remaining until the expiry of the current VAT or transport measures, “nothing is known” about which measures will come into force from January 1 .
In this context, the PP has requested this meeting with the government – with the third vice-president and minister of ecological transition, Teresa Ribera, and the fourth vice-president and minister of finance, María Jesús Montero – to present their measures on economic affairs. to “help families.”
Deflation of the income tax rate
These include, among other things, the reduction of the income tax rate, the reduction of withholding tax and installment payments to the self-employed as well as the extension of the VAT reduction to meat, fish and canned goods; as well as maintaining the VAT reduction on gas and electricity, among other things.
They also called for a reduction in the number of ministries, an improvement in the efficiency of public spending and a greater acceleration of the implementation of European funds.
“It is more important to help families than to buy Telefónica shares,” said Bravo, who asked whether the government’s priority was “the Spanish or Pedro Sánchez himself.”
In the energy chapter, Martín also criticized the government’s policies “which have led to energy poverty as 3 million more people suffer from insufficient temperature” and increased the share of Russian gas in Spain’s purchases.
The government plans to adopt the legislative decree tomorrow, which will extend some of the measures aimed at cushioning the rise in prices caused by the invasion of Ukraine, including the reduction of VAT on some food products for another six months, although work is still underway to rest.
Regarding the PP’s eventual support for this rule if their demands are included, Bravo has explained that they would first have to find “loyalty” and that not all measures would be summarized in a royal decree.
“Cheating, no (…) if it is to benefit all Spaniards, yes,” he concluded.
