The PP demands that Borrell act in response to the forced disappearance of Spanish-Venezuelan activist Rocío San Miguel

This Tuesday, the People’s Party called on the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy to Josep Borrellresponding to the arrest in Venezuela of popular Spanish-Venezuelan activist Rocío San Miguel and several members of her family accused of crimes of treason, conspiracy and terrorism.

In a parliamentary question, the “popular” MEP Leopoldo López Gil asks the head of European diplomacy for “urgent action” in the face of the “enforced disappearance” of four Spanish citizens, pointing out that the EU must know their whereabouts and demand their release. “We are observing a systematic approach by the Venezuelan regime in which hostages are used as bargaining chips for the lifting of sanctions,” López Gil denounced.

Venezuelan prosecutors have accused San Miguel of an alleged plan to attack President Nicolás Maduro and asked that the judiciary keep the activist in temporary custody.

San Miguel’s legal department has reported that five additional relatives have been arrested. Precisely this Tuesday, the Organization of American States (OAS) assured that the case of the Spanish-Venezuelan activist was an “unjustified outrage” and another episode of “criminalization of human rights defenders”.
