The Pope: the world needs a peace not based on a balance of arms

Pope Francis today issued a new appeal for the peace in ukraine and affirmed that the world needs a peace "not based on the balance of arms and reciprocal fear"after the recitation of the angelus in the square of San Pedro.

"We continue to pray for peace in Ukraine and in all parts of the world"said Francis, who appealed to the "Heads of Nations and international organizations to react to the tendency to accentuate conflict and opposition".

Francis stated that "the world needs peace" Y "not a peace based on the balance of arms and reciprocal fear" well "that is going back to the history of 70 years ago".

The pontiff stressed that the ukrainian crisis shouldn’t have happened but urged to become "in a challenge between wise statesmen capable of building, with dialogue, a better world for the new generations".

He assured that a better world is always possible, but that for this "we must leave behind the strategies of the political, economic and military powers and concentrate on a global peace project".

"No to a world divided between powers in conflict, yes to a world united between peoples and civilizations that respect each other"was the call of Francis a few days after the NATO summit in Madrid.
