The player Chelsea want to leave on the road in January

Chelsea are working to ensure that defender Trevoh Chalobah permanently leaves the club before the end of the next transfer window on February 1, sources tell Football Insider. The Blues have informed the 24-year-old that he is free to seek a new destination in January and Chalobah has already held talks with several clubs, including Roma, who have entered preliminary negotiations.

Despite Tottenham’s initial interest in signing Chalobah in the winter, the club have cooled their interest in the centre-back as they look for defensive options following Micky van de Ven’s long-term injury. Spurs, who had initially identified Chalobah as a top target, are now looking at other alternatives to bolster their defence.

Chalobah, the one rejected by Pochettino

Chalobah, who has not played this season due to an injury confirmed in October, was a regular in Chelsea’s squad last season, making 34 appearances across all competitions. However, given the change in direction in Chelsea’s approach and the intention to rebalance the squad, the club is looking to sell several players in January, with Chalobah being one of the candidates.

The defender, who started seven of the last eight Premier League games last season, has become surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge. As the Blues look to reshuffle their squad, Chalobah is on the list of players who could leave the club in January. Due to the current situation, Chelsea are in 12th place in the Premier League and will face Sheffield United in their next home game after two defeats in a row.
