The Pixel 6 doesn’t carry a Qualcomm chip, but the chip manufacturer isn’t worried

Google today released a preview of Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which will be released in the fall.

Instead of opting for a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, as you’ve been doing for years, Google decided to switch to its own Tensor chip. Of course, the first question that arises is what this means for the partnership between Google and Qualcomm.

While Google didn’t mention Qualcomm during the Pixel 6 announcement, Qualcomm confirmed that «will continue working closely with Google on existing and future products based on Snapdragon platforms.

A Qualcomm spokesperson provided a statement to Android Central in relation to your Snapdragon processors:

It may seem that the relationship between Google and Qualcomm is not at a better time. Qualcomm has not released a new Snapdragon chip for the Wear OS in over a year. This led to the belief that Google and Samsung could develop a processor, likely derived from the Google Tensor chip, designed for the long-awaited Pixel Watch.

Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be the first phones with Google Tensor. That means it’s still possible to see Qualcomm chips on Google smartphones when Pixel 5a is finally unveiled. Rumors suggest it will be the Snapdragon 765.
