In recent times, the problem of fuel supply and cost in our country is very topical. For this reason, one of the partners with whom we have been working the longest with ADDON PaymentsComercia Global Payments’ payment solution, is an excellent example of how fuel refueling can also be digitized through a solution that offers easy payment to end customers.

yese is about Smartfuel, “a new way to pay for refueling” that was founded in 2016 and in July 2017 it was launched on the market. This APP provides multiple benefits to customers, since it allows them to reach the service station after geolocation in the APP, click and refuel, being the payment process of the most frictionless. To do this, they have relied on ADDON Payments as their payment service provider to manage the day-to-day running of their online business.

That is one of the objectives of this type of collaboration established between Comercia Global Payments and its partners, to offer to work hand in hand to detect the needs of the business model and adapt as conditions require.

Here we offer you an interview with Carla Solà, Business Developer at Smartfuelwhich allows us to know this project in more detail:

Noelia Ruiz (NR): How did you detect this business niche?

Carla Solà (CS): The business niche was detected by two students who were finishing their degree, later they also became the founders of the application.

When the first mobile payment APP of an oil operator appeared, it was possible to see that there was no solution designed to offer the same or similar product to independent service stations.

NR: What advantages does your APP bring, on the one hand, to gas stations and, on the other, to consumers?

CS: Smartfuel offers multiple advantages to both gas stations and consumers.

The advantages that we administer to gas stations are related to new users and, therefore, higher sales for your business. Today we have 50,000 users in our network at a regional level and daily we carry out user searches for the different service stations that have our payment service.

Currently, users have a service that allows them to make the payment in less than 15 seconds, they avoid having to queue at the gas station markets, in addition to discounts per liter for each refueling and promotional discounts that we carry out from Smartfuel for different campaigns throughout the year.

NR: What does a payment solution like ADDON Payments, with which you have been working for about 5 years, bring you? How has it met your needs?

CS: What a solution like Addon Payments gives us is reliability and security, knowing that all transactions carried out through Smartfuel will be processed in the best way to avoid any type of incident for our users.

The initial needs of Smartfuel that required the input of Addon Payments were very clear, since they were focused on managing the payment. To this day, and After working together for 5 years, we can say that our needs have been met with speed, ease and kindness.

NR: Is the ease of use of the APP, which allows direct refueling, helping now that contactless payments are being promoted more?

CS: Before contactless payments began to be promoted, Smartfuel was already working properly and already had users, although it is currently true that the population is more aware of mobile payments or payment at a certain distance. For us, it is also easier to be able to carry out campaigns and that people are more receptive.

NR: How do you value the collaboration as a partner of ADDON Payments and the adaptation of the needs of your clients with our payment technology?

CS: Collaboration as a partner is very good, since we have a direct channel with assistance, which responds to all the needs of our clients immediately. We are truly happy with the deal and with this partnership.

NR: Currently, the issue of gasoline is the order of the day due to the rise in prices, from what I understand have you noticed an increase in the billing of your customers… but have you also noticed more interest on their part in giving dissemination of the APP?

CS: As you commented, gasoline is currently the order of the day due to the increase in prices and that is why the discount we make per liter is also of great help to users. We have noticed more interest on the part of users, since most of the population’s economy is affected and refueling their vehicles has become a necessity.

Our intention is to make the supply process easier for users and allow them to fill their vehicle more economically.

The diffusion that is currently being made of the mobile application is significant due to all the advantages mentioned above. If a product works well, we all want it.

NR: What are your plans 5 years ahead? Do you plan international expansion or add any more services?

CS: Our plans, facing the future, go through a complete adaptation to the different energies that are coming out in recent years, in order to offer the most global solution possible. In addition, we are also preparing to be able to offer our services in different countries of LATAM and North Africa. On the other hand, and speaking of an evolution more focused on the functionalities offered by the app, we are studying how to offer more advantages to our users through a loyalty programme, penetrate the professional sector or improve our identification devices, among many others stuff.
