The number of Covid-19 infections continues to rise

The average number of positive cases for Covid-19, calculated over a week, is increasing without leading to an increase in hospitalizations for the time being, according to data from Public Health France published on Thursday.

The laboratories recorded 101,747 cases of contamination in 24 hours. The daily average over seven days, which smoothes the daily jolts, is increasing: it stood at 78,759 on Thursday against 74,912 the day before. Most of the anti-Covid restrictions were lifted on Monday, as planned by the government.

Hospitalizations are down…

Despite this rise in contamination, hospital pressure continues to decline slightly, with 20,609 people hospitalized due to Covid-19 on Thursday, against 20,757 on Wednesday and 21,287 a week earlier. Hospitals welcomed 1,164 new Covid-19 patients on Thursday, slightly less than the day before. Over seven days, however, the number of admissions increased (at D-4), to 5,985, against 5,858 on Wednesday.

… And resuscitation too

The pressure is also easing a little in the intensive care units, which have 1,695 patients on Thursday, against 1,728 on Wednesday and 1,928 last Thursday. The disease claimed 110 people in 24 hours in hospitals (145 Wednesday), for a total death toll of 140,729 in France since the start of the pandemic more than two years ago.

Vaccination is struggling to progress, 54.27 million people in total have received at least one injection (80.5% of the total population), 53.34 have a complete vaccination schedule (79.1%) and 39.36 million received a booster dose.
