The new tax requirement to report used sales would affect one in four Spaniards

The start of a new year usually means the entry into force of certain tax changes. In this sense, The Ministry of Finance recently announced that second-hand purchase and sale applications must be reported to the tax office about those users who make more than 30 transactions or earn more than €2,000 per year. This measure could affect a quarter of the Spanish population, according to a survey Packlink, 25.2% of respondents in Spain use this type of platforms to sell products and make money.

65.1% of Spaniards use some type of used platform

The information submitted to the Ministry of Finance includes, but is not limited to, the seller's personal and residence details and the bank accounts used. This regulation has come into force at a time when many Spaniards are using this type of platform to get rid of unwanted Christmas gifts. Actually, 65.1% of Spaniards use some kind of second-hand platform, either to buy or sell. But now that this holiday season is over, consumers will turn their attention to selling gifts that don't meet their expectations.

On the other hand, Treasury regulations focus on regulating sales and profits but have no impact on purchases. This feature is very popular with consumers looking for more affordable products. So, 22.4% of Spaniards have already used these platforms to buy Christmas giftswhile 24.5% use it to buy personal products at a cheaper price. In addition, respondents also cited other reasons for using these recommerce platforms. 21.5% of Spaniards use it to access vintage products and 19.9% want to be more sustainable in their purchases.

“Second-hand platforms are integrated into the everyday lives of consumers, who use them to buy products at a cheaper price or to sell products they no longer need. After the Christmas campaign, many Spaniards are faced with unwanted products. Therefore, selling or donating are some options to get rid of these items.” mention, that Noelia Lázaro, Marketing Director of Packlink.
