The United Nations is in contact with North Korea over the issue of the detained US soldier.
The United Nations Command (UNC) and North Korea have begun talks over the issue of US soldier Travis King, who entered the North last week.
This was said on Monday by the deputy commander of the US-led command that oversees the Korean armistice agreement.
According to Lt. Gen. Andrew Harrison, a British Army officer serving as the deputy commander of the multinational force, talks between the UNC and the North Korean military began and were conducted through a process established under the armistice.

He said that the talks have started with the KPA (Korean People’s Army) through the (Korean) armistice agreement process, but I cannot say anything that could affect the process.
A US soldier crossed the border into North Korea without permission on Wednesday and was arrested by security forces there
According to the authorities, he was previously imprisoned for almost two months in a South Korean prison for the said military attack and was released on July 10. King was investigated for the attack in September 2022 but was not taken into custody at the time.
King is said to be a low-ranking soldier who was being flown to the US for disciplinary reasons, but managed to sneak out of the airport and join the tour group.
The UN military command in the area related to the matter said that the said soldier was on a joint security area orientation tour and we are working closely with the North Korean military to resolve the issue.
