“Cookie” will continue with the Mets in 2023.
The Mets exercised their $14 million option on Venezuelan right-hander Carlos Carrasco for 2023 on Thursday. After an injury-plagued first season in Queens in 2021, Carrasco had a strong 2022, going 15-7 with a 3.97 ERA and 152 strikeouts in 152 innings.
At times, Carrasco had extreme streaks. In June, he had an earned run average of 6.37, followed by a brilliant 0.90 in July.
From the Mets’ point of view, keeping Carrasco made a lot of sense, with Jacob deGrom, Chris Bassitt and Taijuan Walker heading to free agency.
